Reports To: Shelter Manager
Position Summary:
The Receptionist is the first point of contact for visitors, potential adopters, and callers at the Darlington County Humane Society. This role is crucial in creating a positive and welcoming environment, providing accurate information, and supporting the daily operations of the shelter. The ideal candidate is friendly, compassionate, organized, and possesses excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Greet and Assist Visitors:
- Welcome visitors and provide a warm and friendly reception.
- Answer general inquiries about the shelter, adoption process, and available animals.
- Direct visitors to appropriate areas or personnel.
- Assist with the completion of adoption applications and other necessary paperwork.
Telephone and Email Communication:
- Answer incoming calls and respond to email inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Take accurate messages and relay information to appropriate staff or volunteers.
- Provide information about shelter services, hours, and events.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
- Assist with filing, data entry, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Process donations and record information accurately.
- Help with the posting of information on the shelters social media, or website.
Adoption Support:
- Explain the adoption process and requirements.
- Help maintain animal information display areas.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact with the public in a friendly and professional manner.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Basic computer skills, including email and data entry.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion and discretion.
- A genuine love for animals and a commitment to the mission of the Darlington County Humane Society.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work well independently, and as part of a team.
Training:
- Orientation to the Darlington County Humane Society and its mission.
- Training on shelter policies and procedures.
- Training on animal handling and safety.
- Training on the adoption process and paperwork.
- Training on the shelters computer system.

Job Type: Contract
Pay: $11.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Weekends as needed
