The Mayors Fund for Long Beach (Mayor’s Fund) is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding opportunities for children, youth, and families through collaboration with community, civic, and educational partners. We work to address the most pressing needs facing local families, focusing on the core areas of early childhood education, college/career-readiness, and youth opportunities and engagement. The Mayor’s Fund works in collaboration with the Office of the Long Beach Mayor, but is separate from the City of Long Beach, broadly serving the students and families of the Long Beach Unified School District.

Position Overview

The Early Childhood Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation of the organization’s early childhood-focused programs, with a primary focus on the Early Learning Hub (aka The Hub) —a centralized, multilingual platform designed to streamline access to childcare and early learning services for families. The role involves direct engagement with local childcare providers, family support, day to day management of the program including support staff and our technology contractor, and coordination of program infrastructure.

Responsibilities

The Early Childhood Program Coordinator will report to the Chief Impact Officer and work in collaboration with other Mayors Fund staff, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, MCT Technology, Long Beach Unified School District, others within the Long Beach early childhood ecosystem, and other various external stakeholders whose work is impacted by the early childhood education or childcare industry (such as the business community).

A significant portion of Early Childhood Program Coordinator’s responsibilities will be the oversight and implementation of the Early Learning Hub. This is an exciting time to join our team in the early childhood space as we continue building and refining the Early Learning Hub—an innovative, citywide approach to childcare enrollment. Nearly two years into development, the Hub is gaining momentum: we’ve entered into key partnerships to better support at-risk families; we are expanding our technology platform to include connection to additional critical resources (like food and mental health services); and we recently piloted a tuition assistance program that awarded over $300,000 to help families access care. We've also grown from just 10 pilot providers to over 140 participating childcare sites, with plans for continued expansion. With more than 20,000 visits to our website and over 6,000 childcare searches conducted, demand is growing—and so is our impact.

To support expansion of these programs, we are looking for a thoughtful, driven Coordinator to help in refining systems, improving user experience, and preparing for growth. We’re seeking someone who is passionate about supporting families and committed to designing processes that are responsive to the needs of our community. This role is a vital member of the project leadership team and will play a key part in shaping the future of equitable access to early learning across Long Beach and beyond.

This role calls for someone who is action-oriented, highly organized, and thrives on turning big ideas into real-world results. You should be able to take high-level concepts—whether from a grant proposal, strategic discussion, or team brainstorm—and break them down into clear, actionable steps. From there, you'll coordinate with others, track progress, hold yourself and teammates accountable to meet key deliverables. In addition to a demonstrated commitment to the Mayor’s Fund mission, we anticipate work will entail the following:

Program Coordination: Organize meetings, events, and programs; develop and execute program implementation strategies; produce summary reports; track roles and responsibilities; maintain databases and contact records; coordinate (with support from marketing) website/social media updates and creation of marketing materials; set and meet project priorities and deadlines.
Partnerships: Develop and cultivate relationships in support of organizational mission and program success with external stakeholders, such as: Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD), Long Beach Early Childhood Education Committee, Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Long Beach City College (LBCC), CA State University Long Beach (CSULB), Best Start Central Long Beach, and various business leaders, etc.
Community Outreach: organize and engage in event and engagement opportunities to help bolster partnerships and increase program knowledge participation.
Fund Development: Exploration of grant opportunities; support creation of grant proposals, including relevant program summaries; deliverables, and contribute to of grant reports.
Verbal and Written Communication: Produce high caliber professional style memorandums, written correspondence, meeting minutes, marketing copy, and clear verbal communication with parents and partners.
Customer Service: Provide courteous, timely, and solutions-focused support to families, providers, and community partners. Serve as a main point of contact for inquiries, ensuring clear communication, respectful engagement, and effective issue resolution to strengthen community trust and program satisfaction.
Additional Support: Support on special projects, working directly with Executive Director to support staff and partners to ensure quality programming; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience with program and project planning, managing, and evaluating highly desired.
Ability to handle highly sensitive materials and relationships with discretion.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong organization skills, including proven ability to handle multiple projects at once, prioritize, and produce high-quality work.
Self-starter, detail-oriented, reliable, professional, and a quick learner.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Interest in education, collective impact, and civic leadership, with commitment to increasing equitable economic and educational opportunities.
Spanish proficiency highly desired.
Knowledge of early childhood education not required.

Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour
