POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are an internationally recognized nonprofit organization focused on supporting military veterans and their families. We are growing our Planned Giving team to further support the efforts of the current Development team.
In conjunction with the Director of Development and a contracted fundraising agency, the Planned Giving Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Planned Giving Program, drawing from prospects in Membership and Non-Member databases. This includes identifying potential planned giving opportunities and working with the donors to create gift plans that meet their financial and philanthropic goals while educating donors on the various options for leaving a planned gift and the benefits of each. The Planned Giving Officer will also utilize best practices to reach fundraising goals while providing excellent stewardship for donors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Working with another member of the Planned Giving team, collaborate and implement the Planned Giving program, including setting goals, strategies, and policies.
● Identify and cultivate donors with the potential to make planned gifts.
○ Analyze donor information to determine and prioritize donors.
○ Identify prospective donors who may have an interest in planned gifts, research, make initial contact, and prepare proposals.
○ Moves individual planned giving donors and prospects through the stages of engagement.
○ Develops strong positive relationships with donors
● Build and manage the donor prospect list, ensure that information is being tracked on a timely basis, and that progress toward goals is tracked and monitored.
● Ensure appropriate donor acknowledgement and stewardship.
● Follow up on all inquiries regarding planned gifts.
● Meet, in person or by video, with donors and their advisors to discuss gift planning options.
● Create gift plans that meet the donors' financial and philanthropic goals.
● Educate donors and prospects about the benefits of planned giving.
● Manage the planned giving portfolio, including tracking gifts and ensuring that they are used in accordance with the donors' wishes.
● Work with the team responsible for gift processing and finance to ensure proper recording, allocation, documentation, acknowledgement, stewardship, and analysis of planned gifts and pledges
● Work with other development staff, including other Major and Planned Giving Officers, to coordinate fundraising efforts.
● Stay up to date on tax laws and other regulations affecting planned giving.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Bachelor's degree in business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
· 3-5 years of experience in planned giving or a related field.
· Strong understanding of tax laws and other regulations affecting planned giving.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Demonstrated success in managing and growing planned giving.
· Results driven.
· Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability in developing and maintaining strong relationships with individuals and corporate partners.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
This position reports to the Director of Development. The incumbent works closely with an outside consultant for program design and implementation. Position has an impact on the organization through the expansion of a potentially significant revenue source.
Typical contacts are with potential donors, existing donors, officers, outside agencies, and internal staff. Incumbent represents the organization and must have exceptional interpersonal skills.
Planning includes daily, weekly, and monthly activities and providing input on long-range plans and strategies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed in a home office environment. Occasional travel required to attend donor events.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Planned Giving program. Ensures the goals of the program are accomplished.
Create internal systems for the tracking and management of the program.
Maintain the highest standards in public relations between this department and all donors and prospective donors, and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all matters dealing with donors, as well as department matters.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $125,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
