Position Overview:
- The Residential Counselor provides adults living in our residential homes with supportive services. Services include preparation of meals, cleaning of the home, transporting residents to appointments or social outings as well as overseeing the administration of medication as ordered by a licensed medical professional.
Essential Job Functions:
Main Duties:
- Assists in the implementation of treatment plans and residential service plans.
- Actively engages with residents in the social environment at all times, unless specifically assigned another task by the supervisor.
- Collaborates with all treatment team members regarding menu planning, shopping, preparation of meals and kitchen clean up.
- Provides and coordinates social and community integration activities; transports clients as needed.
- Administers medication or assists with medication administration as ordered by a licensed medical professional.
- Oversees house safety (fire drills, security of house at night, arbitration of disputes among residents, monitor and report maintenance safety issues, etc.)
- Provide skills training to ensure the following that the facility is kept clean, orderly and safe at all times and the cleanliness and safety of individual bedrooms.
- Provide ongoing therapeutic support during day-to-day activities.
- Document all meaningful interactions with residents at the end of each shift according to policy and Oregon Administrative Rules.
- Responsible for documenting all incidents prior to completion of shifts and notifying supervisor immediately of any critical incident.
- Must attend all staff meetings.
- Staff must be awake and alert at all times.
- Staff will maintain professional boundaries and ethics at all times.
Required Skills:
- When staffing issues arise, willingness to provide coverage at our other facilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their lives and have not yet learned how to communicate in healthy ways or do not have the capacity to communicate in healthy ways due to a severe mental illness or intellectual disability.
- Commitment to work with individuals who are struggling with safe interpersonal interactions that can at time look like anger, yelling and volatile gestures.
- Ability to apply mental health assessment, treatment and service terminology. Ability to implement skills development strategies, and identify, implement and coordinate the services and supports identified in the Service Plan.
- Ability to work using Recovery and Person-Centered Strengths principles.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors and community partners.
- Knowledge intervention and treatment methods, strategies and techniques.
- Ability to work as a multidisciplinary team member in a positive and productive manner.
- Computer skills, word processing and data entry
- Support the organization's mission along with a workplace culture of diversity equity and inclusion.
- Ability to maintain confidential information within HIPAA guidelines and organizational policies.
- Ability to be flexible especially with scheduling and site locations and to perform and prioritize multiple functions and tasks.
- Must have valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a criminal history check
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment
- Stand and/or sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
