POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Lesson Coordinator at the YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County supports the Aquatics Director in delivering a safe, inclusive, and high-quality swim lesson program that meets the diverse needs of the community. This role is responsible for assisting with program development, staff hiring and training, scheduling, and maintaining a positive learning environment both in and around the pool. The Coordinator plays a key role in family engagement, staff support, and the operational success of swim lessons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Works with Aquatics Director in establishing new program activities, and expanding current programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
2. Assists Aquatics Director in hiring process of staff including interviewing, reference checks, onboarding, and conducting performance reviews.
3. Engages with swim lesson families to provide updates and accurate class placement for swimmers.
4. Trains and develops swim instructor staff including planning in-service training opportunities.
5. Provides coverage for swimming lessons or lifeguard shifts as needed.
6. Collaborates with the Aquatics Director to schedule staff within pre-established shifts based on facility needs, and to plan swim lessons that optimize pool space, ensure equitable pool usage, and align with community demand and revenue goals.
7. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information; YMCA fundraising activities; and special events.
8. Work with the Aquatics Director to increase community water safety awareness.
9. Collaborate with Adaptive Program Coordinator and Aquatics Director to execute Supportive and Adaptive Swim Program.
10. Provides support to swim instructors by being present for the first and last week of the swim lesson program sessions.
11. Helps maintain a clean and clutter free pool deck including the organization of swim lessons equipment and supplies.
12. Support the Aquatics Director in achieving budgeted goals in group swim lessons, private swim lessons, and swim teams, which includes working in direct service teaching programming.
13. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Registers staff for classes to obtain required certifications that may be expiring in the near future.
14. Preforms all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Must be 18 years of age or older.
● High school diploma or equivalent is required.
● 1 year of aquatics related program experience required.
● A minimum of 1 year of experience working with children.
● A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.
● CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications (will be provided in the first 90 days of employment if needed).
● Able to meet the physical demands of prolonged exposure in an aquatic environment and working with children.
●A valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (will be provided in the first 90 days of employment if needed).
● A valid progressive swim instructor certification like the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (will be provided in the first 90 days of employment if needed).
● Willingness to achieve American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification and assist in teaching Red Cross Courses in coordination with the Aquatics Director.
● Excellent interpersonal and written communication.
● Ability to use technology such as Gmail, Google and Microsoft Office Suite, Paycom, Daxko.
