After-School Assistant Site Director - 2025-2026 School Year

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
Schedule: 20-25 hours per week (varied hours)
Location: The Family YMCA/LAPS Elementary Schools sites - Aspen, Barranca, Chamisa & Pinon

Job Summary
We're looking for someone special to join our team as an Assistant After-School Site Director! In this role, you'll work closely with our After-School Site Director to create a safe, caring, and enriching environment for the children in our YMCA After-School programs. You'll be a role model for kids, parents, and coworkers, embodying the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
What You'll Do
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Follow all YMCA Childcare policies and attend monthly staff meetings.
- Work as part of a team, keeping open communication with coworkers, parents, and the Child Development Director.
- Build positive relationships with school staff like principals, teachers, and custodians.
- Keep an accurate headcount of the children at the site and make sure everyone is safe.
- Help maintain a clean and organized environment, including light janitorial duties.
- Make sure all supplies are well-stocked and school rules are followed.
Interacting with Children:
- Engage with the children in a positive way, always treating them with respect.
- Use positive discipline to guide behavior and help kids develop self-esteem.
- Be clear about expectations and help kids learn from their actions.
- Reinforce the YMCA's values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
Interacting with Parents:
- Make sure children are released to the correct parent, using ID if needed.
- Keep parents informed about program details and their child’s behavior.
- Encourage parents to get involved in special events or field trips.
Supervisory Duties:
- Assist in planning and running activities and programs.
- Step in for the Site Director when they’re not available.
- Supervise and support counselors, making sure they follow program policies.
- Attend and contribute to site meetings.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Age 18+ required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (recreation, social work, psychology, etc.) preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with children, or an Associate Degree in early childhood education, is required.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Experience planning age-appropriate activities and supervising kids.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work with budgets and manage program administration.
- Must be dependable, able to work a flexible schedule, and practice professionalism at all times.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and stand for up to 5 hours.
- Must be able to run up to 100 yards in an emergency.
- Must be in good health and drug-free.
