This position is responsible for:
Assists in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck, lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the trucks, and unloading and sorting them at the warehouse; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and compliance with established standards. Assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. When needed, assist store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items. Performs general warehouse upkeep and custodial duties. Performs duties as a thrift store cashier. Respond to customers' questions.
Key Responsibilities:
Accompanies the truck driver on all pickups and deliveries, helping with loading, unloading, packing, and unpacking, among other things.
Assist truck drivers in guiding them to their destinations using maps and/or handwritten directions.
- Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc., according to the category and condition.
- Selects items suitable for store display, distributes them to the appropriate area for further sorting and pricing, and discards items according to established procedures.
- Assist in the thrift store as a cashier.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to perform duties connected to loading and unloading trucks and other equipment.
Ability to operate a cash register.
Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.
Ability to safely perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of moderate to heavy objects (up to 75lbs)
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Work requires accompanying the truck driver on daily routes and exposure to the outdoors, where physical discomforts are associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work is also performed in a typical store environment, where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with weather changes. Work requires the ability to lift, carry, and push/pull (up to 75 lbs) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders, or step bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on a frequent change basis.

- High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store, trucking environment, and cashiering are preferred, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
