JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a passionate and experienced ESOL Teacher to join our Family Literacy Program—an initiative rooted in a four-component model that promotes multigenerational learning and community impact. The ESOL Teacher will work closely with the Project Manager and other program staff to provide high-quality English language instruction to parents and families, helping them develop language skills that promote integration and participation in the community. The teacher will also play a key role in supporting literacy, civic engagement, and family-focused educational initiatives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging, learner-centered ESOL lessons that meet the needs of immigrant families. Lessons should focus on practical language skills for everyday use, including communication at work, in schools, and the community.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to design and implement an effective curriculum that integrates language learning with elements of family literacy, civic engagement, and cultural awareness.
- Regularly assess participants’ language proficiency and progress, providing feedback and adjusting lesson plans as needed to ensure participants’ success.
- Coordinate with PACT (Parent and Child Together Time) teacher to integrate family-focused literacy activities into the ESOL curriculum, promoting intergenerational learning and engagement.
- Create a safe and welcoming learning environment that respects the diverse cultural backgrounds of program participants, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
- Provide individual support to learners as needed, offering guidance on language acquisition, goal-setting, and overcoming challenges to learning.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, and student progress. Assist in reporting on program outcomes as needed for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into agency databases and reporting systems to support compliance, performance tracking, and continuous program improvement.
STATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field required
- TESOL/TEFL certification or equivalent ESOL teaching qualifications are required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience teaching ESOL to adults, preferably in a community-based or non-profit setting.
- Proficiency in Spanish (spoken and written) is required for this position.
- Experience working with underserved populations and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by non-native English speakers.
- Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of a diverse learner population.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with digital tools and platforms for remote or blended learning.
