The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Part-Time (20 hours/week) Strategic Partnerships Officer to support CVT’s comprehensive fundraising strategy by facilitating the full lifecycle of grants/contracts/bids for a variety of domestic and international funders, including government and multilateral funding mechanisms, foundations, corporations, UN agencies, and other private international funding entities.

Position open to:

Candidates located in the U.S. who are authorized to work in U.S. and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa.

Remote status:

Position is fully remote.

Responsibilities:

Proposal Writing: Develop and submit full proposal packages and technical and financial bids according to various funder specifications. Collaborate with program staff to prepare materials for grant applications and government contracts.
New Program/Proposal Design: In collaboration with program staff, participate in new project design processes to develop new initiatives and projects to expand CVT programming. Co-create funding plans, budgets, and marketing materials (concept notes, letters, etc) to obtain financial support for new programming.
Grant/Contract Compliance: Partner with program and finance staff to draft and submit reports to funders on a timely basis, ensuring compliance across programs and projects.
Relationships Building and Stewardship: Build and maintain key connections with external stakeholders (funders, implementing partners, etc.) through ongoing stewardship activities, including desk research, meetings, letters of introduction/inquiry, phone calls, donor visits, site visits, and other cultivation activities. Liaise with all members of the Advancement team and other CVT staff across departments to leverage points of connection. Maintain records in Instrumentl and Raiser’s Edge for all meeting notes and actions.
Prospect Research: Actively conduct prospect research to identify and pursue new funding sources. Facilitate effective matchmaking between identified opportunities and CVT programs.
Program Operations: Participate in program/project budget creation and ensure program expenditures are in compliance with budget parameters. Participate in internal cross-departmental working groups involved in improving administrative or collaborative systems or advancing CVT’s work globally.

Qualifications:
Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

Bachelor’s degree
3 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional fundraising and technical grant writing, including stewardship with a variety of funders
Familiarity or comfort with many portals for submission and funder-specific documents and templates/guidelines
Demonstrated success in securing support from institutional donors

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising
More than 3 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional fundraising and technical grant writing, as well as leading cross-departmental proposal teams
Experience working collaboratively with international NGOs or US non-profit organizations in partnerships and consortiums, including: contract/proposal development, program/project design and implementation, and/or administration
Experience building relationships and identifying funding opportunities with donors outside of the U.S., including EU agencies and international foundations.
Experience with responding to technical bids/contract opportunities from various agencies

Ability to compile content, write new content, proofread, and edit documents
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive donor information
Superior interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with individuals across an organization
Ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with colleagues working both in the U.S. and internationally, as well as with other stakeholders
Knowledge of: social science research, human rights, mental health services, public health, transitional justice, refugee resettlement, US asylum process, or international development
Ability to manage work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team, including ability to take initiative
Ability to participate in multiple proposal projects simultaneously
Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
Proficiency in a language in addition to English desirable: Spanish, Arabic, Swahili or French (speaking or writing)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or other databases commonly used for funding

Time spent on the computer is approximately 85%
Time spent in virtual meetings is approximately 50%

Hiring Timeline: Most CVT hiring processes for US-based positions take about 8 weeks from when the position closes to when an offer is made to a candidate.
