POSITION SUMMARY:
The Part-Time Junior Accountant provides essential accounting support to both United Way of Delaware (UWDE) and 211 programs. This position is ideal for an entry-level candidate seeking to build their career in accounting while contributing to a mission-driven organization. Under the guidance of the Finance Department, this role assists with various accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and timely financial reporting.
Primary responsibilities include supporting account reconciliations, preparing financial data, assisting with audit and budget preparation, and participating in monthly and year-end financial operations. The role requires a detail-oriented, organized individual who can manage tasks independently and maintain accuracy under deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
- Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and accurate record-keeping.
- Support accurate entry and reconciliation of campaign pledges and payments in financial systems.
- Provide backup support for payroll processing and related reconciliations.
- Assist in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, including reconciling sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
- Support internal control processes and help ensure compliance with GAAP, UWDE, and United Way Worldwide policies.
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of grant and program budgets; assist with invoicing, collections, and reporting.
- Help prepare cash flow analyses to support financial planning.
- Participate in annual audit preparation and documentation.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as assigned.
Education
- HS Diploma. Associate’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience preferred
Skills
- Solid financial analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
- Ability to multi-task, manage changing priorities, and work well under deadlines
