Pet Orphans of Southern California is a non-profit pet rescue organization. We rescue cats and dogs from kill shelters from all over southern California. We have our own veterinary clinic, on the premises but the organization also offers grooming, boarding, professional pet photography, adoptions and fostering. We are located in Van Nuys, industrial area of 91406.

Our clinic is open to the public Monday - Friday from 8am to 4pm for surgery and appointments. We do spays and neuters for cats and dogs only. We also do dental prophylaxis, and other soft tissue procedures. We see patients for wellness exams and for specific health issues every Thursday. We do not see emergencies or overnight patients.

We are seeking an experienced RVT (registered veterinary technician) with room for growth, to advance to RVT Supervisor, who is available to work Monday - Friday. We are closed on weekends. Looking for someone with take charge, leadership skills. Someone who can work closely with our Vet Clinic Manager, and with the Executive Director. The RVT should be proficient in basic RVT duties, for spay and neuter surgeries, bonus if you can perform dental prophylaxis and extractions. In addition to scaling and polishing, we are looking for an RVT that is comfortable with single rooted and multi-rooted extractions, including suturing extraction sites.

The ideal candidate must also be proficient at:

Placing I.V. catheters
Intubation
Monitoring anesthesia
Blood Draws and USG cystocentesis
Utilizing IDEXX lab equipment
Calculating dosages
Vaccinations and Vaccine protocols
CPR techniques
Proper animal restraint techniques and the ability to handle animals of all sizes
Avimark veterinary software (preferred)

Other preferred skills and knowledge would include:

Drug Inventory experience
Excellent communication skills
CA VMB standards of care

The prospective employee must have:

A CA RVT license in good standing
2 - 4 years of general practice
2 years of dental experience
2 - 4 years of surgical experience
