Finance Director
(Full-Time, Exempt, On-Site/Hybrid)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance Director is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring Puente’s financial integrity and sustainability. This position oversees all financial operations of the organization, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, payroll, reporting, budgeting, and audits. The Director also leads the development and implementation of financial policies and internal controls.
The Finance Director position is a management level position, providing direction and guidance to organizational matters, including but not limited to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, community emergency response, organizational procedures, and more.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Lead all accounting and finance functions; supervise finance staff and coordinate with Puente’s accounting contractor.
- Prepare and distribute timely monthly financial reports to leadership.
- Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of grants and donations
- Support donor and funder financial reporting.
- Review and monitor organizational cash flow; advise leadership on financial forecasts.
- Coordinate the completion of the annual audit and tax filings with the Executive Director and Audit Committee.
- Approves payroll and payroll allocations.
Budget Development & Monitoring
- Partner with the Executive Director to develop and maintain the organizational budget.
- Provide Directors with monthly budget variance reports and spending analyses.
- Support financial aspects of contract and grant management.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design and manage internal financial controls and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation for financial transactions and records.
- Review bank reconciliations and serve as the primary point of contact with banking institutions.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise finance team members, including performance management and coaching.
- Participates in meetings of the Finance Committee and the Finance Investment Committee.
- Attend leadership meetings.
- Participate in organization-wide initiatives such as strategic planning, DEI efforts, and emergency preparedness.
- Attend staff meetings, retreats and other meetings as needed and participate in organization events, including trainings, fundraising and program meetings and activities
- Drive participants as needed for programming or organizational needs using Puente vehicles, rarely

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- BA or BS and at least two years of professional relevant experience or, eight years of professional relevant experience.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) with proficient written and oral skills, preferred
- Experience implementing, best practices for finance, budgeting, and accounting within a nonprofit environment
- Familiarity with accounting software; Fund EZ preferred but not required
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills and the ability to convey complex information and data visually and orally in a concise, effective, and engaging way
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience working effectively in a hybrid environment, preferred
- Ability to work effectively as part of a culturally diverse team
- Availability to work some nights a week and occasionally on weekends
- Knowledge of the South Coast or experience working in a rural community, preferred
- Ability to create and sustain relationships with other organizations including, but not limited to volunteers, governments, non-profits, foundations, and corporations
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects
- Experience with budget, development, and management
- Strong ability to gather, evaluate and analyze data and make decisions based on interpretation of data
- Significant supervisory experience, preferred
- Work independently and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to organize and manage tasks and people in an efficient manner
- Cultural competency to work with residents from diverse backgrounds including class, race, gender and inequality issues
- Current California Driver’s License and ability to drive for work related activities, mostly in the South Coast and San Mateo County
- Knowledge of the South Coast or experience working in a rural community, preferred
TELECOMMUTING
Telecommuting is defined as regularly working a full or partial workday remotely. Puente will regularly reassess remote work eligibility on a case-by-case basis based on organizational needs, employee performance, and employee's role. Full time employees may work remotely up to three (3) days per week, depending on program's needs. Part-time positions will be prorated to determine the total number of hours eligible for remote work.
