The Auburn YMCA is currently looking for a Group Exercise/Trainer/Coach: Must be available during the day and willing to work with all age demographics. Certifications preferred but will work with interested individuals to meet the necessary qualifications.
The Auburn YMCA is freshly renovating our spaces and adding new Cutting-Edge Equipment for our Increased Membership. We've added a new E-gym and New Functional Training Space. Come be a part of the new updated fitness center!
Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
- Provides participants with proper techniques, form and proper use of relevant fitness equipment.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
- Keeps accurate class attendance records.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- YMCA/ACE Group Fitness Instructor Certification and/or one nationally recognized certification (NSCA, NSAM, ACSM, ISSA, ACE, RYT 200, AFAA, etc.) preferred.
- Must maintain at least one of the above certifications throughout employment.
- Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 3 months of hire (will train) and maintain these certifications throughout employment.
- One-year experience preferred.

- Ability to conduct classes and activities in small and large group settings.
- Ability to direct fitness classes that require the employee to speak clearly, participate in repetitive motion including frequent reaching, lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and occasionally crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing. Must be able to walk 4 flights of stairs to deliver programming on other floors of the facility.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and the ability to recognize participants and their movements up to 80 feet away.
Work Environment
- The work environment is indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
