About MTM Vision
The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision) is a nonprofit founded in honor of the trailblazing actress Mary Tyler Moore by her husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine. MTM Vision is committed to accelerating the development of treatments and preventive strategies for diabetic retinal disease, one of the leading causes of vision loss among working-aged adults worldwide. By bringing together stakeholders from universities, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, government agencies, tech firms, the entertainment industry, and people and families with diabetes, MTM Vision leads the charge in championing research so people with all types of diabetes can live joyful and independent lives free from the fear of vision loss and blindness.
Position Summary
MTM Vision seeks a dynamic Communications and Engagement Specialist to execute communications, branding, and engagement strategies aimed at: raising awareness of MTM Vision’s position as a purpose-driven non-profit leading the way toward cures and new preventive strategies for vision loss from diabetes; aligning Mary Tyler Moore and her legacy of diabetes research leadership with the urgency and need to find solutions for diabetic retinal disease (a leading cause of vision loss and blindness the world over); strengthening stakeholder relationships; and driving fundraising success. This role is ideal for a skilled multi-media content creator and relationship builder with a passion for mission-driven, social impact work supporting medical research and improved health outcomes .
The ideal candidate brings experience in translating scientific advances, opportunities, and needs to content which can connect with a broad audience who has a strong understanding of nonprofit development and partnerships. You will help elevate MTM Vision’s visibility, expand its influence, and deepen connections with donors, partners, and communities affected by diabetic retinal disease.
In collaboration with a Science Leadership, Cause Marketing, and Initiative Operating team, key areas of focus for the Communications and Engagement Specialist include:
- Raising Awareness: Educate the public, donors, scientific community, industry leaders, and others about diabetic retinal disease and MTM Vision’s leadership as a convener of global experts.
- Engaging Stakeholders: Strengthen relationships with funders, sponsors, researchers, clinicians, and patient communities.
- Driving Action: Inspire donations, participation in MTM Vision activities, and support for convenings, collaborations, and corporate sponsorships.
In collaboration with a Science Leadership, Cause Marketing, and Initiative Operating team, responsibilities for the Communications and Engagement Specialist also include (but are not limited to):
- Strategic Communications & Brand Integrity
o Develop consistent, compelling messaging that reflects MTM Vision’s mission and goals.
o Ensure alignment with MTM Vision’s visual identity and tone across all communications.
o Stay current on DRD-related research, data, and policy developments.
o Create materials including one-pagers, annual reports, social media content, email newsletters, and flyers, including materials to support fund development and donor stewardship.
o Help coordinate messaging for PSAs, webinars, workshops, symposia, and other convenings.
- Media & Public Relations
- Identify and pitch stories to media outlets in collaboration with internal and external team members.
- Digital & Content Marketing
- Maintain a content calendar for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn.
- Analyze and report on social media performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Website Management
- Update and maintain the MTM Vision website (marytylermoore.org), ensuring accessibility compliance and brand consistency.
- Partnership Development & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with corporate sponsors, research institutions, and healthcare organizations in partnership with cause-marketing team members.
- Participate in relevant online forums and monitor trends to improve lay public engagement.

Pay: $5,000.00 - $5,400.00 per month
