About Accelerated Cure Project
Accelerated Cure Project (ACP) is a nonprofit organization with a mission of accelerating research for faster diagnosis, more effective treatments, and a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS). In collaboration with people affected by MS, researchers, healthcare providers, funders, and others, we develop centralized resources that can be accessed by researchers worldwide.
Our resources include the ACP biospecimen and data Repository, to enable basic science research on the causes and mechanisms of MS; iConquerMS, a virtual people-powered research network that enables and conducts research on topics that matter most to the MS community; and our inclusive engagement resources including both the MS Minority Research Engagement Partnership Network and the RIDE (Research Inclusion Diversity and Equity) Council, formed to understand and address the issue of underrepresentation in MS research.
Position Summary
The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead the development and implementation of ACP’s marketing and communications strategy to promote organizational initiatives, engage diverse stakeholders, and elevate the mission and impact of ACP. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on execution — including content generation, campaign management, and reporting — and requires an individual who thrives as both a strategist and a doer. The Director will report to the CEO and work closely with others across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continually refine a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with ACP’s mission, goals, and target audiences.
- Generate compelling written and visual content for ACP’s website, newsletters, social media channels, press releases, campaigns, and print collateral, ensuring brand consistency and resonance with stakeholders.
- Lead digital marketing initiatives, grow ACP’s online presence, and cultivate engagement through multimedia storytelling, email campaigns, and social platforms.
- Oversee media relations, proactively seeking and developing relationships with our communications partner, Ogilvy, and journalists, relevant publications, and community partners to amplify ACP’s stories and news.
- Collaborate with the CEO, other staff, and board to support fundraising and communicate ACP’s impact to donors, sponsors, and funding partners.
- Manage and maintain ACP’s website content, ensuring updates are timely, relevant, and visually engaging.
- Design and execute strategies for major campaigns, special events, and education/outreach initiatives, including pre-event publicity, event collateral, and post-event communications.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of marketing and communication efforts, using key performance indicators to optimize strategies and demonstrate impact.
- Stay abreast of nonprofit marketing best practices, new digital and media trends, and evolving audience needs to ensure ACP remains visible and agile.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications (preferably in the nonprofit sector or a research/health-related environment).
- Proven ability to set communications strategy and deliver measurable outcomes, as well as hands-on skill in generating high-quality content across channels.
- Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated proficiency with digital marketing tools, content management systems, and analytics.
- Experience managing public relations and media outreach.
- Strong project management abilities, attention to detail, and a collaborative, cross-functional work style.
- Creative problem-solver and strategic thinker who embraces both big-picture planning and detailed execution.
- Commitment to ACP’s mission and values—including the advancement of research, patient-centered engagement, and equity.
